FAQ — cherries from Poland

Sweet or sour cherries from Poland?

Both. Sweet cherries (Burlat, Kordia, Regina, Summit) are exported fresh from June. Sour cherries (Łutówka, Debreceni Bötermö) are mainly processing grade for juice, IQF, jam and concentrate.

Season for Polish cherries?

Sweet cherries: mid-June to late July. Sour cherries: July to August.

Packaging?

2 kg and 5 kg cartons for fresh sweet cherries, 500 g punnets for retail, 10 kg crates and 300 kg cooled bins for sour-cherry processing.

Cold chain?

Sweet cherries are pre-cooled within hours and shipped at 0–1 °C. Sour cherries for processing go in refrigerated bins.

Fresh sweet cherries: Germany, UK, Scandinavia. Sour cherries: processors across the EU.
